    About the Book

    Edit

On May 3, 4 and 5, 2012, the world of endurance racing raced at Spa-Francorchamps for the 2nd round of the World Endurance Championship (WEC). It was after 20 years of hibernation that we had a FIA-ratified global endurance series again.

It was a shame that one of the main instigators of this FIA World Endurance Championship, the factory entry of Peugeot, withdrew before the season had even started, while another factory-entry, Toyota, was also not present at Spa. Toyota's initial plans were to compete at Spa, but a testing-accident of Nicolas Lapierre in the wet at Paul Ricard a couple of weeks before, meant that Toyota withdrew its car from the event. Toyota first wanted to test a little more, before entering their cars in the 24H of Le Mans. The withdrawal from the complete championship of Peugeot and the withdrawal of Toyota from the Spa event meant that Audi was the sole factory entry. The race for overall victory would more than likely be an all Audi affair.

    Patrick Beckers
    Maastricht, Netherlands, Europe

Patrick Beckers is from Maastricht, The Netherlands. He has been taken pictures since 1981, but it really became a hobby from 1987 onwards. He started his photograph-career with motor-racing pictures. These days, architecture photography is his specialty, although once or twice a year, he still turns up at motor-racing events. From 1998 til 2008, he travelled around the world to take pictures of the world's tallest skyscrapers and he even released some books on this subject. Since 2012, taking pictures of European castles has been his main objective. Many of his (architecture) pictures have been used in books, magazines, leaflets, and on other websites. His website, his photography, his publishing and other journalistic work have always been done as a hobby, with no direct means of commercial profit. The little profit, if any, he makes, he uses to update his photo equipment and to pay for his travel expenses.
