    About the Book

    Edit

'Nobody Asked What My Rapist Was Wearing' is a project that rejects the view that sexual consent can be determined by clothing and alcohol. This project uses photography as a means of creating awareness of the issues surrounding consent in our society.

This project is inspired by the rape case of a seventeen-year-old girl who was forced to display her underwear in court last November and sparked the international twitter movement Thisisnotconsent. Her rapist's defence argues that this young girl 'asked for it' due to the style of her underwear.

Blame culture is a significant factor within this project. Clothing and Alcohol are used to blame the victim for the abuse they are subject to: "What were you wearing," "How much did you have to drink?." Within these cases, blame is nearly never placed on the perpetrator's violent intentions and begs for light consequences. For example, as RAPIST Brock Turner's father states, prison is 'a steep price ... for 20 minutes of action.”

The following images are purposely shocking in order to create an aura of confrontation within the audience. Collectively the photographs reject problematic consent, explore connecting themes of feminism and oppression, as well as CLEARLY define the correct view of consent.
