    The book comprises medical student creative and reflective pieces produced as part of their assessment on a placement in General Practice. The student work results from time spent interviewing patients. Please note, patient names and details have been altered or removed to preserve confidentiality.



    My hope is that readers might be inspired by the stories and reflections conveyed by this group of talented first year medical students.

    About the Creator

    Louise Younie

    When I moved from hospital medicine into general practice, I discovered that there was much more to consulting and being with patients than just the science that I had learned. I embarked on a whole new journey of finding ways to encourage health and healing as well as diagnosing and treating disease. In my role as medical educator, I wanted to offer students the opportunity to engage with the "art of medcine" at a much earlier stage than I myself had. The underlying aim of using creativity and reflection in medical education is to facilitate learning in the domains of intuition, self-awareness, interpretation, expression etc. In response to the invitation to produce a creative piece, medical students have astounded me with their talent and sensitivity.
