About the Book
In 1976, on the the eve of the Presidential election between Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford, William Eggleston was asked by Rolling Stone magazine to photograph Plains, Georgia, the hometown of Jimmy Carter. The ensuing portrait of the environs of Plains and the surrounding landscape would be published as a limited edition artist book titled Election Eve. ONE NINE SEVEN SIX TWO ZERO ONE THREE takes as its subject the buroughs of New York City and presents a picture of the city that recalls Eggleston's vision of Plains, Georgia in 1976.
