    About the Book

    Edit

The name, Mount Damavand has been familiar to me over the years through Firdausi's Shahnameh, where King Faridun chained the tyrant Zahak in a cave somewhere at the top of this mountain, where he is supposed to remain until the end of time. While I had also learnt the use of the word 'Damavand Kuh' in one of the Avesta prayers during my training as a Zoroastrian priest, I had neither seen this magnificent wonder first-hand, nor even seen it's picture. It wasn't until recently that my five year old grandson Faredoon brought the image of Mount Damavand up on the computer screen, while playing on Goggle Earth. I was so intrigued by the majestical look of this mountain that I was compelled to retrieve more pictures of Mount Damavand, and started to do some basic research on it. This was the genesis of producing this small pictorial book. I hope that whosoever peruses through it, may enjoy the beautiful pictures of Mount Damavand, while also gaining some knowledgeable insight on this ancient natural masterpiece of Iran.
