Photographers are ubiquitous in Central Park in New York City. It seems that everyone who enters the park has a camera. Most carry a phone camera or a point and shoot camera. More serious amateur photographers have bigger and more complex equipment. In addition, commercial shoots and wedding photography go on almost every day somewhere in the park. Typically, regardless of the kind of photography, people are the subjects. Less often, the park, which is a work of art itself, is the subject. Of course both are often combined.

There have been many photographic publications involving Central Park. Bruce Davidson’s book is perhaps the gold standard. Todd Papageorge, Lee Friedlander, and Joel Meyerowitz, have published books devoted entirely or partially to Central Park.

Sarah Cedar Miller, James Freund, and a book collaborated on by Mick Hales, and Sandee Brawarsky are all relatively recent photographic books about Central Park. Of course there are historical books about the park as well; some with photographs. There are also books devoted to wildlife in the park. Many films and television shows have scenes in the park.

The current project is unique in that it documents the connection between Central Park and photography. The focus of my interest is to show photographers in Central Park.
