    About the Book

    Edit

The story of 8 generations of the Lamb and Lawler families from County Kerry, Ireland in 1770 to the present descendants in 2009.

What impressed me the most about this journey of over 200 years, eight generations and more than 1000 people- and counting- is the continuity of spirit throughout the years. The same values that led our ancestors to leave family and country and embark on an uncertain journey are still alive and well.

While few of our relatives make the front page, generation after generation of Lambs and Lawlers have been doing the common things, in uncommon fashion, that are the glue that holds our society together.

Love of family is evident as you read each of the accounts . A love of learning and passing that love to future generations is another family tradition. The number of our relatives past and present in the teaching, caring professions and service organizations is testimony that we are people for others.

The Christian faith that sustained the early pioneers, the Depression and Wartime generations, and was a comfort to all in times of sorrow is a continuous presence in our families

And though we work hard, we enjoy a good time too. A real sense of humor comes through loud and clear in many of the family vignettes.

On a personal level, I would like to thank all of you for your cooperation in sending your pictures, your anecdotes and information about yourselves and your families.

Looking at this beautiful mosaic of individuals makes one proud of our heritage and sets a high standard for those yet to come.

    Sincerely,

    Dick Lamb, February, 2010

Fifteen years ago I compiled information about the Lambs and Lawlers into a book that essenially ended with my generation, Most of the material and pictures had been gathered by my mother in the 1960's and 1970's. The current book includes new pictures and material about the past generations, but includes everyone up to the end of 2009.
