About the Book
Morocco has its engrained beauty of design and detail, whether the late afternoon light against the ochre, adobe walls, the intricacies of marquetry and metal work, recurring geometric patterned tiles, the humanoid cut-out shapes of doorways and arches, the aroma of mint, geranium, verbena, marjoram and absinthe in the grandmaster tea maker's pot, the chicken tajine with top notes of dates, preserved lemon and olives.
Certain vistas seem lost in time, with a weirdness and other worldliness (literally from the imaginings of the first Star Wars film) arising from the unusual silhouettes of entrances and clothes, and sensory overload. Yet against this poetic backdrop there is often imperfection.
