About the Book
In this first edition coffee table art book, you will find 78 pages of beautifully printed photographs on high-quality lustrous semi-gloss paper. The Weapon of Our Bodies showcases photographer Dakota Sebourn's work communicating the human condition of queerness in the 21st century as it relates to resistance of neo-fascism. She relies on her own personal experience as a trans woman to connect with strangers in her queer community who are willing to be photographed. This community of queer people endures hardship through authentic and intentional connection to one another, living a life that is inherently an act of resistance, and finding joys in every single day.
The lessons of the past can and should be used to prevent history from repeating itself. Humanity as a whole has borne witness to the horrors of authoritarian regimes across the world: the Holocaust, Apartheid, Lysenkoism, and more. The queer community knows where things are headed now, and thus the queer community is especially wary of what is to come. These unprecedented times are the new precedent. It is through the use of self-appointed labels and the permanent change to one's own flesh that a queer person takes back control. Bodily autonomy itself is a rebellion against the systems of oppression which seek to silence our voices.
We have always been here, we will always be here.
