About the Book
The 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Lorraine was celebrated in November 2024 throughout the city of Metz and the surrounding villages. Every five years, the French welcome the veterans of WWII and their families to thank them for their sacrifices in liberating this area from tyranny during German occupation 1940-1945. The French are committed to teaching their children the local history and showing their appreciation for their liberators. In addition to photos and commentary on the 80th anniversary commemorations and the private tours of historic battlefields and bunkers, ten French and five Americans share their personal stories explaining the reasons this history must be remembered and passed to future generations. Written by the daughter of a veteran of the 95th Infantry Division, much of this book is related, but not exclusively, to the path taken by the Iron Men of Metz.
