    About the Book

    Edit

This book, 8 inches by 10 inches in size, is a smaller, and lower cost, version of the larger format book “The Cascade Range: A Personal Tour - Extended Edition.” This book provides a photographic tour of the entire Cascade Range from northern California to southern British Columbia, including 161 pages of full color photographs and descriptive text. The book is written as if the author/photographer is providing the reader a personal, guided tour, touching on several subjects related to the Cascade Range, including its geography, geologic history, and human history. While some descriptions of routes and related information to travel to some of the photographed locations are provided, this is not a guidebook. Photos contained in this book span the past 40 years the photographer/author has been collecting photos of his travels in this great mountain range and contains some comparison photos that show changes in these mountains over this time period, such as glacial recession. It is the author's hope that the information provided in this book, plus the photographs and the author's personal experiences, will provide the reader the opportunity to tour the Cascades without having to leave the comforts of home.

    Olympia, WA, USA

I began taking photographs in the 1970's while an engineering student at Oregon State University as I traveled to my hometown of Red Bluff, CA during breaks, driving through the southern Cascades as I went.  I began taking photos there to remind me of the beauty I was seeing.  So my photographic journey began.       During the summers while in college, I worked in the woods in the logging industry.  Living in the woods fueled my passion for the outdoors, and I began taking weekend backpacking excursions into the Cascade wilderness.  After I graduated, I to work for WSDOT in Olympia, WA to start a career in geotechnical engineering.  Photographing the natural beauty of the mountains and coast lands became a life-long passion for me, using Olympia as my base for the past 40 years. While my photographic focus has been on the Pacific Northwest, I have also traveled to other parts of the world such as Canada, Japan, Taiwan, Europe, and Chile, taking photographs while traveling.
