    About the Book

Whatever editing you feel is necessary is perfectly fine with me.

Winter in America and the Summer of Dreams is a multidimensional presentation showcasing a photographic essay of Harlem. The story unfolds with pictures and the recollection of a teenager who took a train from Sacramento, California to Harlem in 1977. The author uses an imaginary museum (The Parmelian Prints Archive) to conduct a tour leading to a series of remarkable photographs that capture a moment when hip hop was largely unknown outside of New York City. The time in question is after the New York City blackout and riots during the summer of 1977. This book is bulging with original paintings and photographs focusing on a number of important contemporary topics, such as the January 6 Insurrection and Negro League Baseball. The art and historic photographs reference subjects as varied as Disco King Mario, General William Westmoreland, Gill Scott-Heron, Ray and Charles Eames, James Baldwin, William F Buckley, Tokien Joe Ashwood, elephant stampedes, the Vietnam War, Donald Trump, Rudolph Giulianni, Charles Manson, James Brown, the Yellow Church, and Muhammad Ali. The ‘official game cards’ for the imaginary 1933 Negro League All Star Season, standout among paintings and photographs in the gallery of art leading to the main show, which is the photographic essay of Harlem: Winter in America and the Summer of Dreams. This oversized text is supported by the weight of a single roll of 35mm film the creator used to capture Harlem during one of its most brutal winters on record. Less than 40 photographs shape this work, which is the offspring of actual events and conversations from another time period. From a time and a place everyone seems know something about, but few have ever been. In fact, this book which is entirely based in verifiable fact and reality, lends itself to myth and fairytale in order to attain and reflect a fundamental truth.
