About the Book
Belle Glade, the poorest city in Florida, has felt the effects of the sugar cane industry since before World War II. Migrant workers from the Caribbean were brought to the United States to cut sugar cane. They lived in camps near the cane fields of South Florida or in apartments in the center of Belle Glade. The city faces the issues that systemic poverty brings, but the colorful and multi-cultural community survives.
