    About the Book

    Edit

Have you ever had the experience of seeing a painting in a home and wondered who the person in the painting was? Why was this painting created in the first place? Who painted the picture? Or even — why was the painting kept at all?
This little book is an attempt by a descendant of an earlier owner to unravel the origins of this “family heirloom”.
This book explores some of the financial, social, military and political landscape of Toronto in the later years of the nineteen century.

Having lived in Toronto most of his adult life, Robin had become very interested in Toronto history, particularly the social and economic aspects of life in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Robin developed an interest in genealogy after his mother’s death in 1994. Since then, he has been a member of the Toronto Branch of the Ontario Genealogical Society.
