    About the Book

The world is speckled with lands of awe and wonder that capture the imagination of children and the young-at-heart. Disney World, Six Flags Over Georgia, Universal Studios, and Opryland deliver excitement and thrills that stretch beyond known realities and transport guests to foreign worlds. Before these wondrous lands opened to the public, though, there was promise of an amusement park that aimed to send guests through time and space. Originally named “Time World,” Space City USA was slated to open in 1964, one year before Walt Disney ushered in its first guests. Construction on the multifaceted amusement park began in 1961 with plans showcasing an expansive layout that would transport visitors back in time and to the depths of space. But it was a dream that never came true. Nearly half of the park was completed when construction halted in 1967, leaving behind a relic lost to time in the Northern Alabama city of Huntsville.

    Huntsville, Alabama

In 2014, Dustin Ray Shannon and Faith Dincolo collaborated with Arcadia Publishing to create "Images of America: Saline County Kansas." The book's success spurred residents of Wichita to encourage Dustin to write a photographic history of Joyland amusement park. Inspired by this support, Dustin embarked on the project, resulting in the publication of the book in September 2015. The book was a hit, selling hundreds of copies. In 2023, Dustin released a final edition, featuring an updated layout and two new chapters on the Central Avenue and Mathewson Lane Joyland, as well as the Joyland Park Gunfighters. After the success of the Joyland book, Dustin turned his attention to the Joyland Park Gunfighters, publishing a novel titled "Whispers of the Prairie: The Chico Chronicles," set in a ghost town. Building on this momentum, he founded a subsidiary to publish historical books, both fiction and non-fiction. In May 2024, Shannon Publishing will continue its journey by releasing new titles.
