About the Book
Conjuring smoky cinematic scenes, super ear-splitting sonics, synchronised swaying and sizzling summer sun, carnival's Caribbean culture is an annual assault on the senses.
This is a world I dived into for ten years – one where stuffy societal airs and graces are tossed out of the sash window, then cheerfully ran over by a bass-blasting articulated lorry.
These cacophonous carnivals held across London's boroughs are more than just jerking, jugger-naughty displays of flamboyance, though. What carnival has really come to represent is a timely reminder of what inclusivity looks like in 21st century Britain.
Entertainers from a kaleidoscope of cultures drum side by side to a unified beat, whilst the entertained arrive from every corner of the world to ride out its infamous, bone-drenching sound waves.
So crank it up and get down low – the carnival is now on show. I hope you enjoy this trip through Notting Hill and Hackney carnivals as much as I did trying to capture their spirit.

London
Capturing stories within a single frame and as part of a wider context is the challenge that drives me on to take my next photo. I'm focused on variation; street and studio, pretty and gritty, locations and London, in colour and in monochrome.
