Windows always seem to be looking at me when I pass by. Barns, houses, office buildings, it doesn't matter what kind of structure it is. Maybe that's why I often take pictures of them. In most cases, of course, it's not really a picture of the window, it's an image of what shows through the window, or what is reflected in the window, or what frames the window.

Obviously, windows are everywhere. Since I haven't traveled all around the world, many of my photographs are from trips around the United States. But, I have been to a few other countries. And, although I don't recall ever planning to go out with my camera looking for windows, upon my return, photographs of windows always seem to show up in my latest collection of images.

In addition to the many photographs of windows in this book, I've also included a few quotes about them. I never thought there would be quotes about these common objects, but maybe I don't give them enough credit. After all, isn't it amazing that they are solid objects through which we can see the world? It must be magic!
